This is an unusual event in that Microsoft will host the event and provide both the publicity and hotel services, but the event is actually run by the UK IT Pro Support Community.
The UK IT Pro Community Event is open to all, (irrespective of age, or ability), those who want to know which technology is knocking on your door.
As some of you will remember we conducted the first “Community day” earlier this year (23rd January). When we first started working on the day there was no guarantee that we would be able to completely fill Chicago 1 or 2, yet alone a combined room. However, when we said hello to Phil Cross, (Microsoft), he had a beaming smile on his face and was o9nly too happy to point out that within the 3 days of a TechNet newsletter; we had received 300 registrations, with more to follow after Christmas.
The event itself was a success, with many people, (around 50 – 60%), remaining for the Q&A session where we were joined by the Microsoft Technical Specialists, and member of the Support teams to help answer any of the questions that were fielded. We originally aimed for a 5pm finish, but the last person finally walked out of the door at 6-30pm.
Do we ever learn ?
Maybe not, because this time we've taken the plunge and have chosen to run a bigger event, (and hopefully better), event with more User Groups, covering
- Unified Communications
- Exchange
- SharePoint
- Office
- PowerShell
- Groove
- Vista
We will also be introducing the following three new User Groups:
- Longhorn (Server 2008),
- Virtualisation
- LiveMeeting.
